Following the Trends? Or Falling Behind??

As the years have forced me to grow older my interest  in fashion has grown as well.  For years we have had T.V. shows dedicated to the Do’s and Don’ts of fashion, both on the runway and in the streets. Do they cross over? There are so many who wouldn’t dare follow the runway and yet so many who live for what hits that catwalk.

So what are your thoughts?

When I was younger, my fashion consisted of T-shirts, sport shorts, and adidas sneakers. I was the epitome of a “Tom-Boy” and you couldn’t pay me to get into a pair of stockings and a blouse.  However today, a few years or so later (wink*), I seek out stockings, and even look for more than one kind/brand/make. It all matters, it all changes the outfit that I work very hard to look absolutely fabulous in (wink*).

Now, please don’t misunderstand. There wasn’t any real big transformation from then and now. I am no Rachel Zoe, no Vera Wang (although I did name my dog Vera) but I am an aspiring Fashionista (if you will). I am an aspiring seamstress, milliner, designer, and model.  Not for New York Fashion Week but for myself and whoever else wants to join in my mini-movement.

I don’t have front row tickets to all the important fashion shows, as many of us don’t. However, I do read the magazines, tweet the tweets, and watch many ELLE video clips before bed. I’ve have both learned and grown to love the process of seeing someone’s raw design journey to the sewing table, to the catwalk, and finally to the stores I shop in……or walk around in fantasizing on wear I would wear the items that stay financially out of my reach….for now!

I don’t expect you to love the process, or have the time to follow it. That’s what Marie Claire, Vogue and ELLE are for….and you can follow me on my journey! It’s so easily forgotten that what we wear is an expression of both our beauty and our personalities. What we see on the Blonde Michael Kors model may look fantastic on your body, or may look awful. But don’t forget that there are plenty of things that won’t look good on her that may on you. You wear your confidence, and you don’t want to wear something that doesn’t give you that feeling. Who would?

Well enough about me and more about the purpose of this and the blogs to come…

Women have been the game changers in fashion since before anyone can remember. From native tribes who wore nothing, to then covering up their, uh, tribal makers, to then the classical eras where women couldn’t get enough clothing on to their bodies at one time. Leaps and bounds from then, the flapper era shortened the skirts and lost some sleeves. Now, people one of the biggest trends is Crop Tops which is practically a bra top above jeans, skirts, shorts or whatever you can come with! We have evolved by pushing the boundaries and testing the public.

So if you feel like as soon as you think you have a wrap on the summer trends and your just beginning to put them to use in June…when suddenly the Fall trends are coming out?? Are you already behind? Well if you are Rachel Zoe, or Rachel Roy…yeah you probably are! But if you’re just the amazing you that you are…then you are NOT behind, you are riding the big wave that we all are! …And why not have some fun doing it?!

Diane Von Furstenberg

So here’s to the fun in the fashion that we all know we have to come. Express yourself and dress like the woman that you know is deep down waiting to be brought out! You can

be Blake Lively, or Kate Moss, or Victoria Beckham. But better than that…you can be you!…in a better outfit 🙂 So cheers to that ladies!
