How to Dress For the Del Mar Hat Contests

We all enjoy the races at the track but another exciting  part of the festivities is to be able to strut your stuff  in front of a panel of judges and show your racing fashion sense.  The key to winning a Hat Contest is knowing your track, season, and creating a complete look.
Del Mar opening is this Thursday, July 16th and of course there will be a Contest with different division for the best hat. I have chosen to create looks for The Most Glamorous and Best Racing Theme.

Most Glamorous:

When you are aiming for glam keep your look classic and well put together. Your hat is important but it must compliment  your whole look to create classy effortless style. For this look I chose shades of pink for a summer bright look. Since the dress has multiple colors I choose a fascinator in a solid color to pull all the pink shades together. With such a bold dress and hat I kept the accessories muted to not draw attention in too many directions.

Tips:

• Choose a summer color.
• Only wear a multi color dress or hat NOT both.
• Wear neutral tone makeup.
• Choose classic shoes with a medium heel.

 

Best Racing Theme:

If you are going for the Best Racing Theme title make sure to sport your favorite horse by wearing the silks colors! For this look I chose American Pharaoh. A California bred horse and with summer colors makes him the appropriate choice for a Southern California track. This look is all about showing your spirit so don’t be afraid to go all out! I choose three solid color dresses to match the multi color turquoise and yellow hat. With this look you can have more fun with your accessories and continue the color theme all around.

• Wear a oversized hat with chosen colors.
• Choose a body con or form fitting dress in a solid color.
• Have fun with your accessories.
• Wear platform shoes that are comfortable.
